Lemonade's Kidding

This is Lemonade, our 8 year old Oberhasli foundation doe, pushing during a contraction. The kid is presenting front feet and nose first.
The head and shoulders quickly follow.
The water sac breaks.
It's a female, big and healthy!

Lemonade cleans each one carefully.
They gracefully find their first drink!
The afterbirth is expelled while Lemonade drinks molasses water. (She already ate a handful of raisins.) 

Puppies and Goats in the Barn

Puppies were moved to the barn at 3 weeks old. We built a box the same size as the extra-large whelping box.
The divider between puppies and goats is an extra set of dog kennel panels, overlapping in the middle and fastened together with cable ties.











Here is the adjacent "horse stall" divided with a flimsier portable dog fencing to keep goats separate as they kid. You can see the corner of the puppy box on the right. 

Bonding Time at Shepherds Rest Farm

The Anatolian Shepherd puppies are 19 days old here, meeting the newborn goat kids for the first time.
The pups get tuckered out faster than the kids.
A successful experience!
Back in the whelping box later, the pups are getting much steadier on their feet. 

17 days old

The puppies are starting to play.
Their eyes have opened.
They are much more alert . . . when they aren't sleeping!
